How do I install the Sims 3 and the expansion(s)?
The instructions on how to install The Sims 3 and all the expansions can be found on our Forum HERE.

I installed the game, but it keeps saying “Please insert disc” when I run the game.
This error is caused by a misplaced crack. In order to fix it, you might want to re-check the included “# Installation Guide.txt” file that come with all our downloads, on where exactly to put the crack. Note that for The Sims 3, the crack goes into: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin  AND NOT C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 [Expansion name]\Game\Bin !
Also, to be sure you’ve got the latest available and working crack and download and apply our Ultimate Fix, which can be found HERE. Read the included instructions VERY carefully and you should be able to get the game to work yourself. (More information and help can be found HERE)

I installed the game, but it keeps saying “Unofficial Game Modification” when I run the game.

This error is caused by either an incompatible crack or Mod. If you have any Mods and/or Custom Content, remove ALL of them and restart the game. If it didn’t make any difference, it’s caused by a crack. This happens when you crack your game and then update it afterwards. Your old crack won’t be compatible with the new game version any more. That’s when you need our Ultimate Fix, which can be found HERE. It’ll fix both the error you get and it’ll update your game to the latest version, safely.

I get an “Invalid File” error during the update process.
You’ll get this error when you misplace one or more of the original files, included with our Ultimate Fix. In order to fix this error, download and apply THIS manual patch and use it in combination with our Ultimate Fix, which can be found HERE.

How can I manually patch my game?
Download and apply THIS manual patch and use it in combination with our Ultimate Fix, which can be found HERE.

Do I need the EA Download Manager? (It’s now called “Origin”)

The EA Download Manager, which is called “Origin” now, is only needed in order to update the game via EA’s servers. There’s no harm in getting it and updating via the launcher (It’ll automatically connect to Origin and then to EA servers), but it’s recommended to update manually instead. When you use Origin to update your game, you might get an “Invalid File” error, because you misplaced some of the original files included with our Ultimate Fix. If you do not install Origin, you’ll get a message each time you start up the game’s launcher, saying: “Could not connect to Origin”.
Conclusion: you do not need Origin for the game to work!

The game starts, but then closes again.

First of all, remove ALL of your Custom Content and/or Mods (Like the “Censor” Mod), if you have any. Be sure to remove literally ALL of them! Restart the game and see if it makes a difference.

The game minimizes as soon as I open it.

First of all, remove ALL of your Custom Content and/or Mods (Like the “Censor” Mod), if you have any. Be sure to remove literally ALL of them! Restart the game and see if it makes a difference. If not, also try closing programs like Vuze or any other Bittorrent client, running in the background. Close all unneeded programs when starting the game and it should work fine.

How to start The Sims 3 without the launcher.

If you have some problems with The Sims 3 (Crashing, some specific errors etc.), try starting the game directly without the launcher.

This can be done as following:

1. Navigate to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin *

2. Double-click on the "TS3.exe" and the game will start without the launcher.

3. Have fun playing!

* = For people who have installed either Katy Perry Sweet Treats, Master Suite Stuff, Generations, Town Life Stuff, Pets and/or Showtime, you'll have to double-click on the file called "TS3W.exe", instead of "TS3.exe"!

No matter which game icon I click, it always starts the same game; why?

It might look like the game opens only the game you’ve clicked on, but this is just an illusion. It doesn’t matter which launcher, icon or .exe file you click on to open The Sims 3, you’ll always get into the same game. When you install the base game and then download and install an expansion, the expansion’s new features will automatically be integrated into your base game! It will not be a different (launch-able) game.
So, why does it always show another loadingscreen when the game is loading? Same illusion, you might think the game is only starting the game of the loadingscreen shown, but this isn’t correct either. It’ll just show  the latest installed expansion’s loadingscreen, sorted on release date. Example: if you have the base game, Pets and Master Suite Stuff, it’ll show the Master Suite Stuff loadingscreen, since it’s the newest game available. If you have the base game, Pets and Generations, it’ll show the Pets loadingscreen, since Pets was released later than Generations (And therefore is the “newest” expansion you’ve installed).

I get the “The Sims 3 must be installed on your system” error when trying to install an expansion, even though I already installed The Sims 3.

This error might look more complicated than it actually is. If you didn’t install the The Sims 3 base game, install it first. Installing an expansion pack (e.g. Generations, High-End Loft Stuff, Pets) requires the The Sims 3 base game to be installed on your PC. The base game can be downloaded HERE.
If you have already installed the base game, but still get the error, it means that there’s a different problem; your PC doesn’t recognize the game. This happens, for example, when you use a modified installer (Usually with bad downloads and when you buy a cracked game in stores, in countries where it is legal to sell copyrighted/copied materials) and when you install the game via either Origin or Steam. In order to fix this error, uninstall the version of the game you have now and then download and install a non-modified version of the game. All ® Games4theworld Downloads versions of The Sims 3 are non-modified and can be downloaded HERE.

How to back up your savegames.

It’s always recommend to keep a save backup of your savegames. You can backup your savegames as following:

1. Go to: (My) Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

2. You’ll see a folder called “saves”.
3. Make a copy of this folder, which contains all your savegames.

Ps. If you want to be sure, take a copy of the whole “The Sims 3” folder in “Documents\Electronic Arts”!

I get an “Error during Startup. Please see log.” error when I try to open the launcher.

This error is caused by leftover files in the Windows Registry, from previous installations. This error can be easily solved, by following our instructions fix video HERE.

When I try to start the game from the launcher, it asks for a registration code.

This means you misplaced the game’s crack. Open the .rar file you downloaded. You’ll see a folder called “# Crack”. Open it. You should see a file called “TS3.exe”. Copy (or drag & drop) the “TS3.exe” in there to exactly: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin  and choose “Replace” on the pop-up that appears, telling you the file already exists.
Now, start the game and it should work fine!

The base game doesn’t show up on the launcher, even though I installed it.

In order to fix this problem please update your game to the latest version, using THIS manual patch and use it in combination with our Ultimate Fix, which can be found HERE. The icon should show up again.

During the installation, I get a “Wrong region” error.

In order to prevent this error when you’re trying to install the expansion, be sure to re-read the included “# Installation Guide.txt” on how to change the SKU value in the Registry Editor. However, if you can not find the value in the Registry Editor, please read THIS.

I can’t find the The Sims 3 SKU value in the Registry Editor.

If you can not find the SKU value for The Sims 3 in the Registry Editor in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Sims > The Sims 3 , it should be in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Sims > The Sims 3  instead.

The Sims 3: Pets asks for a “Disc 1” during the installation.

When releasing The Sims 3: Pets, we accidentally removed some essential files, needed to install the game. But don’t worry, we released an official fix HERE, which you can use to fix the error. But, we also released a [FIXED] version of the game, which you can download HERE.

The game crashes/freezes to my desktop.

If your game randomly crashes or freezes, or is crashing on startup, try one of THESE possible solutions. Be sure to try all of them and follow the instructions very carefully. The crashing should stop now. If you need more information, feel free to post on our Forum!

Text balloons and a lot of text are missing in the menu and interaction options.

If you're playing The Sims 3, but you can't see text balloons and/or a lot of text is missing, you can fix it by changing the game's language to "English". You can do this as following:

1. Open "Start" and type "regedit" in the search box. After that, press [ENTER].

2. When the Registry Editor has opened, navigate to this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Sofware > Sims > The Sims 3 (Be sure that you're navigating to exactly this path!)

If it's not in that path, it may be here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Sims > The Sims 3 (Be sure that you're navigating to exactly this path!)

3. Now you'll see a value called "Locale". Double-click on it and change the value to "EN-us".

4. Click "OK", close the Editor and... ENJOY playing!

I’m experiencing lag, what can I do to fix this?

That largely depends on why you’re experiencing lag. Try lowering the graphics settings first, and try playing in windowed mode.

It can also be caused by a world’s routing. Bad routing causes sims to get stuck on community lots where they cause lag. Use the console to give the resetsim command to reset all non-NPC sims to their own lots. Note that this affects all sims and interferes with such activities as school/work or having a baby.

It can also be caused by a large amount of abandoned cars, you can use a mod to clean these up, or go around town to delete these cars. There’s also a mod that resets sims and does away with abandoned cars automatically.

If the above didn’t help, be sure to try THIS too!

Some of my in-game objects don’t work correctly after installing Pets.

This is happening because EA has changed the way some objects work to allow pets to interact with them. Custom content can be fixed by using the TSR Pets CC bug fixer (http://www.thesimsresource.com/news/view-post/post/22404).

Original game content can sometimes be fixed by using the console and moveobjects on to put the objects back in their appropriate place (useful for chairs that appear to be placed in tables or pc’s that appear under desks etc.). It can also be fixed by selling the buggy object and replacing it with a new one from buy mode.

Why do the pets in my game look weird/distorted?

Unfortunately the system requirements for the Pets expansion pack are more demanding than for previous packs. Some graphic cards are no longer supported, and the result is, unfortunately, distorted animals. There is no fix for this issue. You could, however, try to update your graphic card’s drivers to the latest version. It can make a difference in some cases. If you do not know how to update your graphic card’s drivers to the latest version, don’t hesitate to contact us!

My pets don’t  have traits, what’s wrong?
This is caused by an outdated mod, usually the “hidden traits” mod. Remove all your Mods to see if that fixes the problem.

Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells doesn’t work correctly.

Use THIS fix to get rid of the problems with the spellbook.

.Sims3Pack and/or installed world is inaccessible or wont install.

Use THIS handy guide to help you get rid of this problem.

How to install Store Updates and Custom Content in .Sims3Pack format.
Just double-click on the objects you want to install. The launcher will automatically open and start downloading the object(s). Note that this might take some time, just be patient! That’s pretty much it.

If you want to download a lot of .Sims3Pack files at once, just do as following:

1. Drag & drop all the .Sims3Pack files/objects you want to: (My) Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads

2. Open the The Sims 3 launcher and navigate to the "Downloads" -tab. Click "Select all" and then choose "Install".

3. The launcher will now start to install all the selected updates at once, so you don't need to do them one by one.

4. When finished, start the game and... ENJOY using the new objects!

How to install Custom Content and Mods in .package format.

If you don’t know how to install Custom Content and/or Mods in .package format, just follow THIS easy guide we wrote. Should be easy to get up and running!

I get a “Can’t connect to Origin” error, when I start up the launcher.
Actually this error nothing to worry about! You get this error because you (probably) don’t have Origin installed. Origin is used when updating your game through the launcher. Whether you need Origin? No, you do not need Origin to be installed, in order for the game to work or to update, since you can always use the manual patch instead, which we always recommend anyway.
